Promo Photos for Single Launch
So a few weeks ago, me, Jimmy and our good friend Simon Ayre dragged ourselves from our warm beds to do a shoot for the single. Little did we know the night before that pretty much all of us had forgotten about the shoot, but we’d be more hungover than is humanly possible. In all honesty I probably shouldn’t have even driven the next morning. But when you are waiting in a freezing cold Peagout 106 at half 8 on a Sunday morning, in the grip of winter, and Jimmy Watkins appears walking towards the car eating a bowl of cereal, it all becomes a rather sobering experience.
So there we were, somewhere near Leckwith, running back and forth across a zebra crossing in what can only be described as ‘inappropriate attire’ for that time of year. Our heads were aching, but we had a blast. From what started out as a mock of The Beatles’ ‘Abbey Road’, we managed to make into a fun, eccentric photo shoot.
Hope you enjoy them as much as we had fun doing them!
Dan.

Recording ‘Vladimir’

Here are some photos from the Samoans session at Music Box Studios. We had an amazing time playing, drinking coffee, eating savoury eggs and forcing Jack from FOTL to play Nirvana songs in the office (well me and Jimmy did little to persuade him). Thanks to Jimmy for the pics and shaky-hand-man video. We can’t wait wait to get the single out!

After another long day at Musicbox, Samoans now have their tracks down for the split. Two great songs that you’ll be familiar with if you’ve ever seen them live, recorded for the first time.
First mixes are back already (which I’ll be obsessively listening to for the next few days/weeks/months), and then just a bit more mixing left to do (which is in the very capable hands of Charlie Francis again) before all the tracks for the split will be good and ready to be sent off for pressing.
Awww yeeeeeah.

Some bad news
Harry has decided to part ways with SNFAS in order to start his own Brian Jonestown Massacre covers band called the Harry Jonestown Massacre. As such we’ve had to postpone recording with Samoans this Friday while we get right on booking Harry’s 64 date Stadium tour for the new year.
(We actually had to postpone recording because Charlie is really ill at the moment, but the above sounded a lot more interesting, so we’ll go with that as the official line).

This Friday…
…we’ll all be returning to our spiritual homeland, Musicbox Studios, as Samoans are recording their 2 tracks for the split. Another day of solid tracking, vitamin D deprivation and caffeine consumption, at the end of which we’ll have all the tracks recorded and ready for the split. It’ll be Samoans first time working with Charlie Francis, and we’re really excited to see what sound he gets out of them.
Weird to think that in a mere 72 hours we’ll be able to get the ball properly rolling with the release, and in only a month’s time we’ll have the finished product to hold in our hands. Or, more likely, a red slip from the post office stating ‘sorry, but 500 7” vinyls wouldn’t fit through your letterbox’.
More videos/photos after Friday!

Yet more footage of Strange News recording. Exclusive footage nonetheless, if only because this is probably the only time you’ll get to see them play live when they’re not wearing double denim.

A few choice photos of Strange News recording tracks for the split and their forthcoming EP to wet your appetite…

The split has hit the fan
(Pun title robbed from Alexander Comana).
Hello, Matt and Isaac here from Barely Regal Records. After much procrastination, we finally got round to setting up this blog in an effort to keep tabs on our next (and first proper) release, a split 7” single with Strange News From Another Star and Samoans. All involved are good friends of ours, and we’re honoured that they’ve trusted us with the release.
Preparations are already well under way to get release the Split before the end of the year, and between now and then we’ll be posting plenty of photos, videos and other multimedia crap here to keep you updated with progress. Maybe even some free downloads to reward our loyal readership (e.g. those of you who, like us, having nothing better to do with your lunchbreak).
We’ll let the bands themselves do most of the talking on here, but rest assured we’ll be working hard behind the scenes to the get the word out about the release (“sorry boys, we haven’t got enough hype for the launch, looks like you’ll have to do a sex tape” etc etc).
There will of course be plenty more pun titles.
